Doors open at 9:30pm, PWYC (5$ suggested, no one turned away because of money worries, eva eva)
don't call it a cumback, we've been here for
years...
About a year after we brought you jizz.ism,
Agitate! Queer People of Colour promises
another one of those sweat-inducing, hot and
spicy dance parties you've all grown to
love.
Come early for an art exhibit by local
artists Nathan Hoo and Rah Eleh, and stay
for bumpin' and grindin' to the beats of dj
yalla!yalla! and dj mikkipedia.
Rah Eleh is a Persian queer womyn of
colour activist and artist! She was born in Iran
and has been living in Canada since she was
five. Currently a student at the University of
Ottawa majoring in fine arts, her medium is
photography as well a minor in womyn studies.
Rah Eleh incorporates performance as well as
dance in her works and documents them through
photography. The works she will be showing are a
response to Diana Thorneycrofts series "the body
its lesson and camouflage." Rah Eleh uses
Thorneycroft's lighting techniques but brings
her own style to the images.
Bamboo
GrooveBamboo
Groove is: • Peter Liu - vocals • Peter Hum -
piano • Adrian Cho - bass
•
Tim Shia - drums
As part of Ottawa's Third Annual
"Chinatown Remixed" project and Asian Heritage
Month, vocalist Peter Liu has assembled
"Bamboo Groove", Ottawa's first all-Asian
jazz combo. His vision for this event
has been to gather and showcase prominent jazz
musicians of Asian descent, to promote
awareness of jazz in Ottawa's Asian community,
and to help support the arts in Ottawa's
Chinatown and celebrate Asian Canadian heritage.
Known for his crooner sound, Peter leads his
combo, "The Jazz Mutants", and he is a tenor
member of "The Ewashko Singers". Pianist Peter
Hum is a mainstay of the Ottawa jazz community,
and he has recently released his debut CD, "A
Boy's Journey". Bassist Adrian Cho is the
founder and director of the Ottawa Jazz
Orchestra, Canada's only symphonic jazz
orchestra. Drummer Tim Shia visits from Toronto,
where he is busy leading several notable groups,
including "The Worst Pop Band Ever". Performing
at the Shanghai Restaurant in Ottawa's
Chinatown, Bamboo Groove shares its
interpretation of some of the hottest and
coolest jazz standards.
Come check out the smooth sounds of Bamboo
Groove, and enjoy the fabulous food, drink, and
vibe at the Shanghai. $10 cover at the door.

PAST APRIL EVENTS |
April
Comic JamWednesday, April 27 · 7:00pm - 10:00pm
Every
month, artists gather at the Shanghai to draw together
for a few hours and create memorable and fun 'jams'.
Come out and see what all the fuss is about! All
welcome, event is free, materials provided.
The collaborative nature of the jam means no one knows
exactly how a story will turn out or what will happen
next for everyone's characters. Crazy twists and
silliness make the once a month outing a treat not to be
missed.
April's theme is TIME! Whether you're a victim of
procrastination, trying to squeeze more hours out of the
day or a closet Time Lord, then this is the jam for you.

Movie Night presents "Shinjuku Boys"Wednesday, April 20 · 8:00pm-10:00pm
Free admission, $5-$10 suggested donation.
... Introduces three 'onnabes' who live as men, identify in different ways in regards to gender, and work as hosts at the New Marilyn Club in Tokyo. As the film follows them at home and on the job, all three talk frankly to the camera about their transgendered lives, revealing their views about women, sex, and gender. Alternating with these illuminating interviews are fabulous sequences shot inside the Club, patronized almost exclusively by heterosexual-identified women who seek them out. This is a remarkable 1995 documentary about the complexity of sexuality, gender roles, identity and sex work in Japan.
